2019 Cabernet Sauvignon
Ominous Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Alexander Valley fruit, with a jammy and full profile like the more delicate climates. It has a naturally dark red-fruit finish that hints at tobacco and pepper notes. Ominous Cabernet reminds one of dark Spanish fruit from the Cataluña region where the steep slate soils yield intense, concentrated red-fruit and black-fruit flavors layered with distinct mineral, dark earth, and spicy profiles but with soft tannins and lighter oak notes.
The name Ominous was inspired by the mysterious origin of the Black Madonna, the patron Saint of the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey, a Spanish monastery located in Cataluna, Spain. Cataluña is one of our favorite places to visit, spend time, relax and reconnect, and Monserrat is a pilgrimage we have taken many times. This is a special place for us, as it has been for Christians for centuries. According to local lore it was carved from wood in Jerusalem and given to Spain as a gift during early christianity. In 718 AD, during the Muslim conquest of Spain, Christians hid the Black Madonna in a high, remote cave on Montserrat mountain to protect it from desecration. Later to be rediscovered in the 9th century by shepherd children who saw heavenly lights and heard music coming from a mountain grotto. When local priests tried to move the statue down the mountain to a church in the valley, it miraculously became too heavy to lift, signaling that the Virgin wished to remain permanently on the mountain.

When you first pour this wine, you'll notice the deep color and the smell of the dark fruits as you begin to experience the wine through smell and finally when you take that first taste you'll get the mix of dark fruits and tobaccos that make this wine special.
The deep dark notes of this wine perfectly combine to create a feeling and a spirituality, Ominous. We set the first release of this wine on April 27th, 2024, the day marked to celebrate the feast of the Virgin of Monserrat, the Patron Saint of Catalonia.
Malbec
Oak touches this Malbec from the start. Younger in the bottle, the nose enjoys breathing and a brisk swirl in the glass, but the first taste reveals gentle tannins and soft fruits. Black cherry and a hint of Malbec's signature pepper hit the tongue immediately, but the mouthfeel is soft and elegant. The juice is bright and berry-filled, holding up to a larger meal while pairing perfectly with poultry, seafood and a rich dessert.
The Alexander Valley signatures flow throughout this wine, and the flower and terroir of the region seem to live throughout the wine, while holding true to a Spanish style that inspires our Ominous wines.

When crafting this Malbec, we wanted to highlight both the vibrant fruit of Alexander Valley and the Old World inspiration behind our Ominous collection. As a result, it is a wine that opens beautifully with time in the glass, revealing layers of black cherry, berry fruit, floral character and a touch of black pepper. Its soft tannins and elegant structure make it equally enjoyable on its own or with a variety of foods.
